WHICH CONTRACT EXTENSIONS MATTER TO ME TODAY?

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant

Author: Tim Peffer – Dynasty Owner Commissioner

It has been a busy couple of weeks in the NFL…not only for fringe players hearing about their fate on whether they made the cut or not, it has also been a busy week for the business side of the NFL.

Andrew Luck’s retirement created a mad dash for owners to bid on Jacoby Brissett.

Other major contract extensions finalized this week with Ezekiel Elliott becoming the highest paid NFL running back.

The question is which affect me in Dynasty Owner NOW and what should I worry about later?

HERE IS WHAT AFFECTS YOU NOW:

LeSean McCoy – He was cut by the Bills and quickly landed with the Chiefs. His old deal of $8+ Million is gone and he now has a 1 year – $3 million deal with the Chiefs and will be a free agent in 2020. If you drafted McCoy, you will now save $5 million. (This contract was updated in Dynasty Owner)

Jacoby Brissett- Andrew Luck retired and now Jacoby is starting the QB for the Colts. He had a friendly deal of $850,000 with 1 year left which would have made him a 2020 free agent but…the Colts ripped up his old deal and signed him to a 2-year $30 million contract. So, if you ran out and picked him up, he will now cost you $15 Million per year for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. (This contract was updated in Dynasty Owner) So just like the Colts owner…you will be paying Jacoby $30MM over 2 years.

You do have the option to cut Brissett and McCoy without penalty before there games on Sunday. In the future, you will receive an alert through Slack. If you choose to drop the player, it will not charge you fees. But, as we are in the development phase of the game, send me a DM in Slack @Dynasty Owner – Tim and I will apply funds to your account to pay for the drop fee for Brisset or McCoy. I will issue reimbursements up until noon Sunday 09/08/2019. Only if you choose to drop them by Sunday.

HERE IS WHAT AFFECTS YOU DOWN THE ROAD:

Jared Goff – If you own Goff in Dynasty Owner there is no need to worry about his monster contract until 2021. Goff will still be on his current rookie deal for 2019 and 2020 at a cost of $6,984,418 per year. The new 4 year – $134 million extension won’t take effect until 2021 and will run through 2024. As an owner of Goff, you will have the option to keep him at his new contract or you can drop him following the 2020 regular season (before January 1, 2021) at no penalty.

Ezekiel Elliott – We thought this holdout was never going to end. Zeke signed a monster 6 yr. $90 Million contract. The good news is that this contract will not affect you in 2019. Zeke will still cost $6,239,085 for the 2019 season. You will also have the option to keep him at $15MM per year for 2020 and beyond or drop him at the end of the 2019 season without penalty.

We will be placing an *asterisk* next to the contract info for Jared Goff and Ezekiel Elliott signifying contract extensions. If you own Ben Roethlisberger, Michael Thomas, or Adam Theilen, then you have already seen this. We will also soon be adding another tab on the player profile for contract extension info so when you trade for a player that has an extension already in place you will be able to make an informed decision.

Good luck in this week upcoming matchups!
