Week 5 of the Dynasty Owner season certainly had a lot of scoring, didn’t it? Eight players had 40 or more Dynasty Owner fantasy points this week, so the competition was fierce for Player of the Week and Value Player of the Week. Speaking of fierce, the Williams brother vs. brother Match-up of the Week was also a barnburner with the highest score of any Match-up that we’ve looked at so far this season.
This is our fifth Dynasty Owner weekly wrap-up article. If you missed the first four articles, let’s tell you what to expect. Every week, we’ll look at what happened in the Dynasty Owner Match-up of the Week, name a Dynasty Owner Player of the Week and a Value Player of the Week, and highlight a player at every position who should have been Active and one who should have been on your Bench.
All stats are based on the Standard Dynasty Owner scoring system as outlined in the updated Dynasty Owner Constitution. Standard Dynasty Owner scoring gives you .1 points for every yard rushing or receiving, .1 point for every 2 yards passing, 1 point per reception, 6 points for a rushing, receiving or passing touchdown and 2 points for a successful 2-point conversion (rushing, receiving, or passing). Interceptions or fumbles lost cost you 3 points, while a fumble that is recovered by the player’s team is a loss of only 1 point. Bonus points are available for 100-199 yards rushing (2 points), 200 yards rushing or receiving (6 points), 300-399 yards passing (1 point) and 400 yards passing (4 points). There is also a 3 point bonus for clutch scoring, which is a score that results in a lead change in the final two minutes of the 4th quarter or overtime. Kickoff and punt return touchdowns are worth 6 points for the player and kickoff and punt returns are worth .25 points for every 10 yards. Standard Dynasty Owner scoring for kickers gives you 1 point for every extra point, while a missed extra point will cost you 1 point. It’s 2 points for a field goal of between 0 and 39 yards, 4 points for a field goal between 40 and 49 yards and 5 points for a field goal of 50 yards or longer. A missed field goal of between 0 and 39 yards will cost you 3 points, while a miss of 40 yards or more is a loss of 2 points.
Dynasty Owner Player of the Week
Our Dynasty Owner Players of the Week are: DeShaun Watson and Will Fuller
With all of the scoring, there were many worthy candidates this week and in the end, we just couldn’t decide between Houston Texans’ teammates DeShaun Watson and Will Fuller. So, for the first time, we have Co-Players of the Week. Fuller put up 58.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (14 receptions, 217 yards receiving, 3 receiving TDs, 1 fumble – not lost), while DeShaun put up the second most Dynasty Owner fantasy points in our game’s five week history with 58.0 points (426 yards passing, 5 passing TDs, 47 yards rushing, 2 fumbles – not lost). Without the fumbles, Watson would have put up the first 60 Dynasty Owner fantasy point game in history. Congratulations are in order for Will Fuller on being the first receiver to get the 6-point bonus for 200+ yards receiving. Getting over 200 yards receiving from a WR who isn’t breaking your salary cap with his $2.54 million annual salary is great for his Dynasty Owners and ended up costing them only a little over $3,000 per point this week.

DeShaun Watson isn’t busting your salary cap either as he also has a very Dynasty Owner friendly annual salary for a QB of only $3.46 million.

Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week
Because this is Dynasty Owner and we’re all looking for value from the players on our roster, we also have the Value Player of the Week. This week’s Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week is: Aaron Jones
Jones led the Packers offense in both rushing and receiving in Week 5 and scored 51.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (107 yards rushing, 4 rushing TDs, 7 receptions, 75 yards receiving) in the Packers 34-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Jones’ annual salary of just $650,484 means he cost his Dynasty Owners less than $1,000 per point this week, the second time a player has had a below $1,000 cost per point week this season (Week 1 – Austin Ekeler – $883 cost per point).

Players Who Should Have Been Active
Next, we look at those players who should have been in your Active lineups based on their performance in Week 5. We aren’t going to write that you should have started Christian McCaffrey or Amari Cooper, even though both of them scored more than 40 Dynasty Owner fantasy points this week, since both should always be in your Active lineup. Instead, these are players who might be Free Agents, on your Bench or Practice Squad, but likely weren’t Active in Week 5 when they should have been.
QB: Matt Ryan (ATL) – 41.2 points
Only an idiot would suggest having Matt Ryan on your Bench this week (https://dynastyowner.com/post/week-5-preview). After a down week of less than 20 Dynasty Owner fantasy points and zero passing TDs against Tennessee, some people might have been tempted to bench Ryan against the Houston Texans. Those people missed out on a 41.2 point outing (330 yards passing, 3 passing TDs, 7 yards rushing, 1 rushing TD, 1 2-pt conversion, 1 INT). Next time don’t pay attention to that guy who told you to Bench Ryan, he should have been Active.
RB: Matt Breida (SF) – 29.9 points
Breida had an 83-yard TD run on the 49ers first play from scrimmage on Monday Night Football and added another receiving TD later. Both of these scores came in the first quarter when he amassed 23.1 out of his 29.9 Dynasty Owner fantasy points alone in the 49ers 31-3 victory over the reeling Cleveland Browns. Overall, Breida finished with 114 rushing yards, 3 receptions for 15 yards and 2 TDs – numbers worthy of being in everyone’s Active lineup this week.
WR: Allen Robinson II (CHI) – 28.7 points
Blimey! Did Allen Robinson really score 2 TDs against the Raiders in London this week? He did and produced 28.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (7 receptions, 97 yards, 2 receiving TDs) for his faithful owners. Benching Robinson seemed like a good move with the Bears playing in London with their backup QB (Chase Daniel), but he produced like a player who should have been Active.
Honorable mention to Byron Pringle of the Kansas City Chiefs. Pringle was the Kansas City top receiver for Week 5 with 6 receptions for 103 yards and a receiving TD (22.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy points). He was the fifth player to lead the Chiefs in receiving yards in a game this year (Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, Mecole Hardman and Travis Kelce) and probably the most unlikely one. He likely wasn’t on many Dynasty Owner rosters or Active in any lineups, but should have been.
TE: Gerald Everett (LAR) – 20.6 points
Everett moved up from the Honorable Mention list last week with another great performance. Everett caught 7 passes from Jared Goff for 136 yards to give his Dynasty Owners, like Andy Rocco, 20.6 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Everett may have been Active in some leagues after last week, but most of his Dynasty Owners probably didn’t have him there in Week 5.
Honorable mention to Darren Fells of the Houston Texans who gets on this list with a 16.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy point performance. Fells was efficient as he caught 2 passes for 20 yards, but both of them were TD passes. Fells is the second Texans TE to appear in this column (Jordan Akins was the first). If you were one of the few Dynasty Owners to have Fells on your roster, he should have been Active.
K: Dan Bailey (MIN) – 14.0 points
Dan Bailey scored 14 Dynasty Owner fantasy points as he didn’t miss a kick in the Vikings’ Week 5 28-10 victory over the New York Giants. Bailey booted FGs of 31, 32, 45 and 48 yards plus added two PATs to fill up the stat sheet this week. The Vikings haven’t been giving him a lot of scoring opportunities this season as he only had four FG attempts and ten PAT attempts in the previous four games, including no attempts at all in Week 4. Based on that lowly production, having Bailey on the Bench, instead of Active, was likely for most of his Dynasty Owners.
Players Who Should Have Been on the Bench
For every player who should have been Active but wasn’t, we have a player who probably was Active, but was better left on your Bench. Here are some likely Active players who should have been riding your Dynasty Owner Bench in Week 5.
QB: Phillip Rivers (LAC) – 4.3 points
Rivers had scored over 25 Dynasty Owner fantasy points in three out of the first four games, so his Dynasty Owners can be forgiven for thinking that he should be Active against the Broncos at home. Instead, Rivers should have been on your Bench due to his 4.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy point performance (211 yards passing, -3 yards rushing, 2 INTs).
RB: LeSean McCoy (KC) – 1.3 points
With Damien Williams back in the lineup for the Chiefs, LeSean McCoy struggled to get involved in the offense and finished Week 5 with only 1.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (2 receptions, 23 yards, 1 fumble lost). He had been averaging 10 rushing attempts per game so far this season, but had none this week and should have been on your Dynasty Owner Bench if you own him.
Dishonorable mention to Jaylen Samuels who hopefully was not Active for any of his Dynasty Owner despite being touted as a player to Activate this week. Samuels touched the ball eight times in the Steelers 26-23 loss to the Ravens, but only produced a total of 17 yards of offense and 1.5 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (4 yards passing, 2 yards rushing, 3 receptions, 11 yards receiving, 1 INT). Samuels was better left on your Bench.
WR: Mike Evans (TB) – 0.0 points
Two weeks ago, he was the Dynasty Owner Player of the Week with 45.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. This week, Mike Evans scored zero Dynasty Owner fantasy points, the dreaded Blutarsky, and should have been on your Bench. Evans was targeted three times, but reeled in zero catches. The best thing that can be said about his performance is that at least he didn’t get negative points.
Dishonorable mention to Emmanuel Sanders who had only 1.9 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (1 reception for 9 yards) in Week 5. That’s not a lot of points for someone making $11 million annually who was probably Active in many Dynasty Owner lineups. Sanders should have been sitting on the Bench this week.
TE: Greg Olsen (TEN) – 0.0 points
Another Blutarsky, not seen at the TE position in this column since O.J. Howard back in Week 2, for Greg Olsen in Week 5. Olsen was targeted just twice in Carolina’s 34-27 victory over Jacksonville, leaving most of the receptions and yards to D.J. Moore and Christian McCaffrey. This is a far cry from the 25.5 Dynasty Owner fantasy points that Olsen put up in Week 3 versus Arizona. He should have been Active that week, but on the Bench this week.
K: Cairo Santos (TEN) – -9 points
Cairo Santos, the man known as NYJ for a while on Dynasty Owner, had the worst kicker game of the year this week. Santos missed 4 FGs, including two of less than 40 yards (one was blocked) to cost his Dynasty Owners 9 points this week. His performance also cost him his job as the Titans released Santos on Monday. Hopefully he was on your Bench or better yet, Practice Squad.
Dynasty Owner Match-up of the Week Recap
Twilliams (Tyler Williams) – 155.5 vs. Darnold’s Dudes (Alex Williams) – 138.1
In the battle of undefeated brothers, it was younger brother Tyler who managed a 155.5-138.1 victory over his older sibling Alex. Tyler had scored more points coming into the week and kept his scoring lead over Alex. Appropriately in this high-scoring week of football, our Dynasty Owner Match-up of the Week produced more points than any previous Match-up of the Week. Tyler’s final score of 155.5 points also eclipsed the previous individual team record set in Week 3 by DynastyMasterMike.
Tyler got a great game from Michael Thomas (41.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points) and Dak Prescott (32.9 Dynasty Owner fantasy points) plus double-digit points from the rest of his starters, except Mike Evans who put up the previously mentioned Blutarsky. Tyler’s balanced scoring was enough to overcome Christian McCaffrey’s 49.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy point outburst for Darnold’s Dudes. Alex also had 26.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points from Cooper Kupp and 25.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy points from Dalvin Cook. However, he had three low scores (6.0 points from Wil Lutz, 5.6 points from Keenan Allen and 1.8 points from Noah Fant) that helped to seal his defeat.
In the Week 5 preview article (https://dynastyowner.com/post/week-5-preview), the wide disparity in QBs was noted and the 22.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy point difference between Tyler’s QBs (Dak Prescott and Jared Goff) and Alex’s QBs (Kyle Allen and Taysom Hill) was more than Tyler’s overall margin of victory.
Finally, my Week 5 prediction was correct, and Tyler’s victory gives me a 2-3 record on the season. One more victory until .500!
