The inaugural season of Dynasty Owner is over now, and we have our first Chase for the Ring winner. Congratulations to Eddie Driscoll and New York’s Strongest!

Eddie was the best Dynasty Owner for most of the year as he went undefeated in his League and won the Chase for the Ring. Eddie ended up winning it going away, winning his League and the Ring by over 100 points each.

This is our sixteenth and last Dynasty Owner weekly recap article of the 2019 season. As usual, we’ll name a Dynasty Owner Player of the Week and a Value Player of the Week, and highlight a player at every position who should have been Active and one who should have been on your Bench. Plus, we’ll take a look at my recommendations for who to have Active and who to Bench in the final week and see how everyone in the Top 10 of the Chase for the Ring fared in their League Championship game.

All stats are based on the Standard Dynasty Owner scoring system as outlined in the updated Dynasty Owner Constitution. Standard Dynasty Owner scoring gives you .1 points for every yard rushing or receiving, .1 point for every 2 yards passing, 1 point per reception, 6 points for a rushing, receiving or passing touchdown and 2 points for a successful 2-point conversion (rushing, receiving, or passing). Interceptions or fumbles lost cost you 3 points, while a fumble that is recovered by the player’s team is a loss of only 1 point. Bonus points are available for 100-199 yards rushing (2 points), 200 yards rushing or receiving (6 points), 300-399 yards passing (1 point) and 400 yards passing (4 points). There is also a 3 point bonus for clutch scoring, which is a score that results in a lead change in the final two minutes of the 4th quarter or overtime. Kickoff and punt return touchdowns are worth 6 points for the player and kickoff and punt returns are worth .25 points for every 10 yards. Standard Dynasty Owner scoring for kickers gives you 1 point for every extra point, while a missed extra point will cost you 1 point. It’s 2 points for a field goal of between 0 and 39 yards, 4 points for a field goal between 40 and 49 yards and 5 points for a field goal of 50 yards or longer. A missed field goal of between 0 and 39 yards will cost you 3 points, while a miss of 40 yards or more is a loss of 2 points.

Dynasty Owner Player of the Week

Our Dynasty Owner Player of the Week is: Daniel Jones

Danny Dimes made his return to the New York Giants lineup and led his team to a 41-35 overtime victory. He did it by scoring 51.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (352 yards passing, 12 yards rushing, 5 passing TDs, 1 fumble). Jones is rostered in 100% of Dynasty Owner leagues, but since he had missed the past two games, it’s unlikely that too many of his Owners made him Active for their League Championship. If you did, congratulations on winning your League Championship! Even though salaries are not charged for the Dynasty Owner playoffs, Jones would have been a cost per point bargain at his $6.42 million regular season weekly salary.

  • Week 16 Points: 51.8
  • Week 16 Salary: $458,287
  • Week 16 Cost per Point: $8,847

Congratulations Daniel on your first Dynasty Owner Player of the Week honor!

Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week

Because this is Dynasty Owner and we’re all looking for value from the players on our roster, we also have the Value Player of the Week. This week’s Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week is: Kenyan Drake

Drake helped his Dynasty Owners make it to their League Championship last week as the Value Player of the Week with 41.6 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. After last week, hopefully his Dynasty Owners had him Active to help them win their League. Drake had another big performance with 35.4 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (166 yards rushing, 3 receptions, 18 yards receiving, 2 rushing TDs). With these back-to-back high scoring weeks, Drake became the first player to win the Value Player of the Week honor twice in a row. At his $845,315 annual regular season salary, Drake would have only cost his Dynasty Owners $1,706 per point this week if salaries were charged in the playoffs.

  • Week 16 Points: 35.4
  • Week 16 Salary: $60,380
  • Week 16 Cost per Point: $1,706

Congratulations Kenyan on being the first player to win back-to-back Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week honors!

Players Who Should Have Been Active

Next, we look at those players who should have been in your Active lineups based on their performance in the League Championship game. It’s the playoffs, so if you were New York’s Strongest and had the top QB (Lamar Jackson), RB (Christian McCaffrey), WR (Michael Thomas) and TE (Travis Kelce), you probably should have had them Active. For those of us without all four of those guys, here are players who might be Free Agents or on your Bench or Practice Squad, but likely weren’t Active when they should have been.

QB: Andy Dalton (CIN) – 48.8 points

Fresh off a 1.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy point performance against New England last week, having Dalton as your Active QB for the League Championship game seemed like a tremendously bad idea. However, Dalton easily turned in his best performance of the year with 48.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy point performance (396 yards passing, 4 passing TDs, 1 2-pt conversion, 1 fumble), including a clutch 3 point bonus for his 2-point conversion to tie the game in regulation. Despite his mid-season benching, Dalton was still rostered in 52% of Dynasty Owner leagues for the League Championship game. Even though he was playing against the Dolphins, it’s doubtful that any Dynasty Owners had him Active when they should have done so.

RB: Devonta Freeman (ATL) – 33.7 points

Freeman waited until the Dynasty Owner League Championship game week to have his best performance of the season with 33.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (53 yards rushing, 9 receptions, 74 yards receiving, 1 rushing TD, 1 receiving TD). Even though he was drafted high enough on average (ADP 83) to be Active week in and week out, Freeman was still ranked outside the Top 20 RBs prior to this week and could have easily been on the Bench for his Dynasty Owners. Hopefully you made Freeman Active if you had him on your roster.

WR: Tyler Boyd (CIN) – 33.8 points

Boyd was the top WR in Dynasty Owner this week, just edging out the #1 WR for the entire year (Michael Thomas) by 2.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Boyd had quite a game against the Dolphins poor pass defense, scoring 33.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (9 receptions, 128 yards receiving, 2 receiving TDs). He had fallen out of the Top 20 WRs for the season, but definitely redeemed himself with his Dynasty Owners with this performance. Hopefully you were like Haddonfield Shapes and had Boyd Active in your League Championship victory.

TE: Mike Gesicki (MIA) – 26.2 points

There were several TEs outside the Top 10 who had good weeks in the League Championship game. Out of all of them, Gesicki was the best with 26.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (6 receptions, 82 yards receiving, 2 receiving TDs). Gesicki is rostered in every Dynasty Owner league, but after two poor performances in a row, it’s unlikely that too many of his Owners were like Bye Week who defeated Chase Contender Young Gunz and had him Active.

Honorable mention to Dallas Goedert, another TE outside of the Top 10 who is rostered 100% of Dynasty Owner leagues but was likely not Active in too many of them for the League Championship. Goedert had an early TD for the Eagles against the Cowboys and led his team with 24.1 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (9 receptions, 91 yards receiving, 1 receiving TD). It was easily Goedert’s best performance of the season and he should have been Active for his Dynasty Owners in their League Championship game.

K: Sam Ficken (NYJ) – 12.0 points

Ficken is only rostered in 11% of Dynasty Owner leagues, so few Owners even had the opportunity to make him Active. For those few Owners with Ficken on their roster, he was perfect on the day with four successful kicks and 12.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Ficken had FGs of 37, 42 and 54 yards plus a PAT in the Jets victory over Pittsburgh. Hopefully you had him Active if he was on your roster for the League Championship game.

Players Who Should Have Been on the Bench

For every player who should have been Active but wasn’t, we have some players who probably were Active, but were better left on your Bench. Here are some likely Active players who should have been riding the Dynasty Owner Bench in your League Championship.

QB: Deshaun Watson (HOU) – 8.9 points

Hope you weren’t a Dynasty Owner relying on Deshaun Watson to lead your team to the League Championship because you were severely disappointed. Watson was held to only 8.9 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (184 yards passing, 37 yards rushing, 1 INT, 1 fumble) by Tampa Bay, who was one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. This was Watson’s second worst weekly performance and it couldn’t have come at a worse time for Chase for the Ring Contenders Florida Storm, Recyclers and Run CMC who all had Watson in their Active lineups. All of them lost their League Championship and should have kept Watson on the Bench.

RB: Nick Chubb (CLE) – 4.5 points

There were plenty of great reasons to have Chubb in your Active lineup. He was a Top 5 RB coming into the League Championship game. He was facing a Baltimore defense that he had a Player of the Week performance against back in Week 4 (41.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy points). He helped his Dynasty Owners get to the League Championship with 25.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy points last week. Finally, he was solid week in and week out with an average of 17.7 points per game in the Dynasty Owner regular season. Koopa Troopas and others in their League Championship games should have sat Chubb on their Bench because he had his worst performance of the year, scoring just 4.5 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (45 yards rushing).

WR: Tyler Lockett (SEA) – 2.5 points

None of the big name WRs went out and gave their Dynasty Owners a Blutarsky (0.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points) this week in the League Championship games (although two Top 40 WRs D.K. Metcalf and Darius Slayton did). However, Metcalf’s teammate Tyler Lockett wasn’t much better with just 2.5 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (1 reception, 12 yards receiving, 18 yards returning). It was the fifth time in six games that Lockett has scored less than 10.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Because of his 26.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy point performance last week, many of his Dynasty Owners probably felt comfortable having him Active this week. The Young Gunz did and they should have left him on the Bench.

TE: Zach Ertz (PHI) – 6.8 points

Ertz was the #2 TE in Dynasty Owner coming into League Championship week, but sustained a rib injury in the first quarter of the Eagles game against the Cowboys. He played the entire game with the injury, but was only able to put up 6.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (4 receptions, 28 yards receiving). Benching Ertz was the right move for his Dynasty Owners. Having Ertz Active over Mark Andrews was a factor in Florida Storm’s loss in their League Championship game.

K: Dan Bailey (MIN) – 3.0 points

It was a pretty good week for kickers. No kicker had negative Dynasty Owner fantasy points and only Jake Elliott of the Eagles missed more than one kick. Elliott did score 0.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points, but he is well outside the Top 10 kickers, so we had to find another kicker. Dan Bailey is the choice for kicker who should have been on the Bench as he made his only two attempts on Monday night (a 23 yard FG and a PAT), which was only good for 3.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Hopefully you didn’t have him Active and need a lot of points from him on Monday night to win your League Championship. He didn’t have the opportunities and should have been left on your Bench.

Preview Article Recommendations

We don’t have a Week 17 preview article as the Dynasty Owner season is over. As a result, we’ll have to recap my recommendations for the finals here.

First, we’ll look and see how my Active recommendations worked out (Good, Bad or Just Ok). I recommended having the following players Active for your League Championship game:

  • QB: Mitchell Trubisky – 8.9 points (Bad recommendation)
  • RB: Ronald Jones II – 19.9 points (Good recommendation)
  • WR: Tyler Boyd – 33.8 points (Good recommendation)
  • TE: Jacob Hollister – 11.4 points (Just Ok recommendation)

Hopefully everyone with Boyd on their roster took my recommendation to make him Active. Ronald Jones was a Top 10 RB as well. However, the Trubisky recommendation was terrible and Hollister was Just Ok. Two Good, one Just Ok and one Bad recommendation is a pretty average week for the Active recommendations.

Now, let’s look and see how my Bench recommendations worked out (Good, Bad or Just Ok).

  • QB: Kyler Murray – 15.9 points (Just Ok recommendation)
  • RB: Le’Veon Bell – 13.3 points (Just Ok recommendation)
  • WR: Julian Edelman – 14.2 points (Just Ok recommendation)
  • TE: Tyler Higbee – 19.4 points (Bad recommendation)

Three Just Ok recommendations and one Bad one. Both Bell and Edelman had decent games, but finished outside of the Top 20 at their respective positions. Murray wasn’t great, but was better than a few other Top 10 QBs (Dak Prescott, Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston) despite leaving his game early with an injury. Higbee was the only Bad recommendation as he had another big game and was the 7th best scorer in Dynasty Owner at the TE position.

Chase for the Ring – Top 10 Contenders Game Recaps

Each of the Top 10 Contenders in the Chase for the Ring needed to win their League Championship in order to stack their claim as the Best Dynasty Owner and win the Ring. As a testament to the difficulty of capturing a League Championship, only half of the Top 10 Contenders actually won their League Championship game.

The results of the match-ups for the Top 10 were as follows:

  1. New York’s Strongest – 186.8 vs. Budney – 80.9
  2. Florida Storm – 113.6 vs. Flying Pigs – 119.4
  3. Haddonfield Shapes – 165.2 vs. Ambassador Millerr – 144.5
  4. Recyclers – 140.8 vs. TE Ertz When Eifert – 167.0
  5. Young Gunz – 127.6 vs. Bye Week – 152.1
  6. Run CMC – 125.7 vs. K-Hunta’z Gunna’z – 150.1
  7. Puck Fittsburgh – 155.0 vs. Day Drinkers – 123.8
  8. Up Country Degens – 133.4 vs. Alex’s Team – 121.8
  9. Koopa Troopas – 117.6 vs. Mafia Affiliated – 157.2
  10. Yorkshire Roses – 188.0 vs. WhoDey & the Blowfish – 125.1

Not only did New York’s Strongest win their League Championship by over 100 Dynasty Owner fantasy points, but they also had the second most points of any of the Top 10 Contenders with 186.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Yorkshire Roses had the most points with 188.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points this week to win their League Championship. They moved up from 10th place in the Chase to finish in 4th place.

Congratulations to New York’s Strongest on your undefeated season and winning the Ring!
