49ers vs Titans

By Matt Morrison (@dynastyjerk)

Tonight, we have a very fine Thursday Night Game that has major playoff implications. For starters, the 49ers are 8-6 while the Titans are 9-5. The 49ers are currently the 6th seed in the NFC as they have won five out of their last six games. They look to be in a solid spot to make the playoffs, but winning the division looks doubtful. Teams knocking on their door for a wild card spot are the Vikings, Eagles and Saints.

The Titans are in quite a different situation. They are currently the leaders in the AFC South.  They hold a single game lead over the Colts. They are also in the driver’s seat for the tiebreaker as they have already won the season series 2-0. The Titans are the 3rd seed in the AFC and are still able to capture the two or even the one seed depending on how the Patriots and Chiefs end the season.

This game should be a quick one as far as time goes. There will be plenty of rushing attempts as both teams rank in the Top 5 for rushing percentage. Despite the high probability of this being a game with long drawn out drives, Vegas has given it a mediocre over/under of 44.5. This isn’t a terrible implied point total for each team, but it doesn’t exactly stand out as a game that could turn into a shootout. Regardless, there will be several high quality fantasy options that I would love to start in this game.

Value of the Game Recap

Last week I had Jalen Guyton as my Value of the Game (VOTG). Not only was he the game’s greatest value, but he outperformed my expectations. In last week’s article, I mentioned that a single catch that goes for a touchdown would likely be enough to make Guyton the VOTG. Well, that wasn’t too far off from happening. Justin Herbert connected with Guyton on a short second quarter touchdown. Here is how my projection matched up with the actual outcome…

Jalen Guyton$540,00026408.4

And here is how Guyton’s actual day ended…

Those 9.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points combined with a salary of $540,000 makes Guyton the Week 15 Thursday Night Football Value of the Game

Starters

All the players on this list are ones that I would be very comfortable starting in my Dynasty Owner playoffs this week.

Jimmy Garoppolo ($27,500,000)

Jeff Wilson Jr. ($2,050,000)

D’Onta Foreman ($920,000)

Deebo Samuel ($1,811,869)

Brandon Aiyuk ($3,132,835)

George Kittle ($15,000,000)

Bench

Ryan Tannehill ($29,500,000)

Dontrell Hilliard ($920,000)

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine ($610,000)

Value of the Game

The VOTG for this week is not the easiest choice. I had the choices narrowed down to D’Onta Foreman and Deebo Samuel. Foreman should be the leading rusher and most likely player to score a rushing touchdown for the Titans tonight. On the other hand, Deebo has been one of the most electric and versatile players in the league all year, but especially over the past month. The decision, as always, comes down to salary.

In the end, Foreman’s salary is just too cheap to ignore. Deebo would have to double Foreman’s Dynasty Owner fantasy point total in order for him to be a bigger value, and I don’t see that happening. D’Onta Foreman is my Week 16 Thursday Night Football Value of the Game.

This will be my final Thursday Night Football article of the year as this is the final week with a Thursday Night game. It has been an absolute pleasure to bring you these pre-game articles. I look forward to doing it again next year.

Thank you all for reading. Take care and be safe.
