Week 6 Recap: Rookie Tight Ends

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant

By Steven Van Tassell (@SteveVT33)

This was a big week for TE scoring in Dynasty Owner. We had 14 TEs who had 10.0 or more Dynasty Owner fantasy points, 11 TEs who scored a TD, five TEs with 10 or more targets that resulted in at least seven receptions, and two TEs with over 100 receiving yards. The “big name” TEs, such as the top three TEs in Dynasty Owner all had great weeks. Mark Andrews ($14,000,000) had 23.6 Dynasty Owner fantasy points, Travis Kelce ($14,312,500) had 19.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points, and Zach Ertz ($10,550,000) had 14.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Both Kelce and Ertz have scored double-digit Dynasty Owner fantasy points in all six games so far in 2022 and Andrews has done it five times.

Two other “big name”, but so far disappointing TEs also did well this week. George Kittle ($15,000,000) had 16.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (8 receptions for 83 receiving yards) for his first game in 2022 with over 10.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Kyle Pitts ($8,227,624) caught his first TD pass of the season and had 10.9 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (3 receptions, 19 receiving yards, 1 TD).

In addition, we also had four rookie TEs who all scored double-digit Dynasty Owner fantasy points this week. Interestingly, neither Trey McBride ($1,574,916) from the Cardinals who was the first TE chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Cardinals and the only one taken before the third round wasn’t among them. This list also didn’t include Isaiah Likely ($1,041,085) of the Ravens who was the breakout TE of the pre-season with 12 receptions for 144 receiving yards and a touchdown in just two pre-season games. The four rookie TEs were among the nine taken in the third or fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and seven of those nine rookie TEs have more Dynasty Owner fantasy points so far than McBride.

Neither Jets TE Jeremy Ruckert ($1,261,227) nor Ravens TE Charlie Kolar ($1,091,221) are listed above as they have not scored any Dynasty Owner fantasy points yet. Ruckert has played in four games but only received one target, while Kolar has been on Injured Reserve all season.

The emergence of a new crop of inexpensive and productive TEs is good for Dynasty Owners as the top performers are getting very expensive to roster. If you go into a mock draft to do some research and look at the current Top 12 TEs, you’ll see that the player with the lowest salary is Hayden Hurst ($3,500,000) at TE11. Only three have salaries of under $5,000,000 and all three of those players have just one year left on their contracts. T.J. Hockenson ($4,955,306) will play next year for the Lions on either a new contract or his fifth year option of $9.392 million. Robert Tonyan has a one-year deal for $3.75 million. The cheapest contract out of the current top five TEs is Zach Ertz and his three-year, $31.65 million deal. The only top 12 TE last year with a salary of under $3 million was Dawson Knox ($880,400) who was TE10. For the record, Knox has a new 4-year, $52 million ($13 million per year) contract that starts next year.

Hopefully you have one or more of these affordable rookie TEs already on your Dynasty Owner roster. Five of them (Bellinger, Woods, Otton, Likely and Dulcich) are rostered already in over 95% of Dynasty Owner leagues. Jake Ferguson and Jeremy Ruckert are rostered in about three-quarters of leagues (77.02% for Ferguson and 73.62% for Ruckert), while Okonkwo is rostered in just over half (54.04%). Only Charlie Kolar is widely available as he is only on a roster in 17.02% of Dynasty Owner leagues.

Having a rookie TE who blossoms into a top TE after being drafted in the third or fourth round of the NFL Draft with a four year contract of only around $1 million to $1.3 million per year is what can help make your Dynasty Owner team great. It helps to have a great QB (or two) and a couple of great RBs and WRs, but an affordable and productive TE isn’t bad either. Good luck if you hit the rookie TE lottery and have the one who turns out to be the best.

Before we get to the rest of the article, it’s time to explain our Dynasty Owner scoring system:

All stats cited are based on the Standard Dynasty Owner scoring system as outlined in the updated Dynasty Owner Constitution. Standard Dynasty Owner scoring gives you .1 points for every yard rushing or receiving, .1 point for every 2 yards passing, 1 point per reception, 6 points for a rushing, receiving or passing touchdown and 2 points for a successful 2-point conversion (rushing, receiving, or passing). Interceptions or fumbles lost cost you 3 points, while a fumble that is recovered by the player’s team is a loss of only 1 point. Bonus points are available for 100-199 yards rushing (2 points), 200 yards rushing or receiving (6 points), 300-399 yards passing (1 point) and 400 yards passing (4 points). There is also a 3 point bonus for clutch scoring, which is a score that results in a lead change in the final two minutes of the 4th quarter or overtime. Kickoff and punt return touchdowns are worth 6 points for the player and kickoff and punt returns are worth 1 point for every 40 yards.

Standard Dynasty Owner scoring for kickers gives you 1 point for every extra point, while a missed extra point will cost you 1 point. It’s 2 points for a field goal of between 0 and 39 yards, 4 points for a field goal between 40 and 49 yards and 5 points for a field goal of 50 yards or longer. A missed field goal of between 0 and 39 yards will cost you 3 points, while a miss of 40 yards or more is a loss of 2 points.

For the purposes of this article, ADP and Dynasty Owner rostered percentage statistics were current as of the morning of October 19th.

Dynasty Owner Player of the Week

Our sixth Dynasty Owner Player of the Week for 2022 is the sixth different QB to win the award this season. I can’t believe that the streak of distinct QB winners this year has reached six. The Player of the Week winner this week is: Joe Burrow

Burrow takes the Player of the Week award with the fewest Dynasty Owner fantasy points so far this season (42.5 Dynasty Owner fantasy points). He had exactly 300 yards passing, 25 rushing yards and 4 TDs (3 passing and 1 rushing). While this is Burrow’s third Player of the Week honor, it is just the second time that he has won it all by himself. In Week 7 of the 2021 season, Ja’Marr Chase ($7,704,910) matched Burrow point for point (39.8 for Burrow and 39.1 for Chase) and they were both declared winners. This time, Burrow had significantly more Dynasty Owner fantasy points than Chase (32.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points) this week, so he secured the award for just himself. It was the 19-yard rushing TD that separated Burrow from his teammate and allowed him to secure the solo victory. Burrow is QB5 on the season with almost a full game with of points (23.2) separating him from Geno Smith ($3,500,000) who is QB6.

Week 6 Points: 42.5

2022 Salary: $9,047,534

Cost per Point: $212,883

Congratulations Joe on the third Dynasty Owner Player of the Week award for your career. We can’t wait to see if you have more in the future and if any are split with Ja’Marr Chase.

Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week

Because this is Dynasty Owner and we’re all looking for value from the players on our roster, we also have the Value Player of the Week. The sixth Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week for the 2022 season and fifth first-time winner in a row is a player who was not expected to play much this season, but was pressed into action in Week 5 and then really took off in Week 6: Deon Jackson

Jackson was a runaway winner as he had the most Dynasty Owner fantasy points by a RB for the entire week. With both Jonathan Taylor ($1,957,287) and Nyheim Hines ($6,200,000) out for the Colts, Jackson stepped up again and scored 28.1 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (42 rushing yards, 10 receptions, 79 receiving yards, 1 TD). He was outstanding overall, but not a standout in any single statistic as over 25 RBs had more rushing yards, Rhamondre Stevenson ($1,057,264) had one more TD, and Christian McCaffrey ($16,015,875) had more receiving yards. Jackson tied Austin Ekeler ($6,125,000) for the most RB receptions with 10. Jackson was the total package this week and did it for a lower salary. Not even among the breakout TEs for the week did anybody score more Dynasty Owner fantasy points or have a lower salary. Even if Taylor and Hines return for Week 7, it would seem that Jackson has played well enough to earn at least some playing time for the Colts moving forward. Even if he hasn’t, it was a great two-week run in which he scored a combined 41.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points and likely earned himself a healthy salary increase and new contract in 2023. I encouraged Dynasty Owners to pick him up and his roster percentage is up to three-quarters (75.32%) from 53.2% on Saturday.

Week 6 Points: 28.1

2022 Salary: $825,000

Cost per Point: $29,359

Congratulations Deon on the first Dynasty Owner Value Player of the Week honor of your career. There have been quite a few first-time winners this season, but you were the most unlikely of them.

Week 6 Surprise and Totally Predictable Events

This section is where I highlight one fantasy football surprise of the week and one totally predictable thing. The surprise should be surprising for most people, but the totally predictable thing might be something that I’ve been believing and saying for a while, but nobody’s been listening or agreeing with me on it. Hopefully everyone reading this section is enjoying it as much as I am:

Surprise of the Week: Easy choice for the second week in a row. It’s also the same surprise as last week. Yes, once again, it’s the continued success of the New York football teams. The Giants are currently 5-1 and the Jets are 4-2. That’s a combined record of 9-3 and something that not even the biggest New York football fans would have guessed. Not even after they were a combined 7-3 last week as few people had the Jets going into Green Bay and winning AND the Giants beating the Ravens.

In addition, I’m also surprised that the Minnesota Vikings are 5-1, have a four-game winning streak and a two-game lead in the NFC North. This is especially surprising because their offense is ranked 14th in points per game (23.2). None of their top skill position players, Kirk Cousins ($33,000,000), Dalvin Cook ($12,600,000) and Justin Jefferson ($3,280,701), are lighting the fantasy football world on fire. Cousins is QB9, Cook is RB11, and Jefferson is WR4 which are all good, but not great. In contrast, the Buffalo Bills are also 5-1, second in the NFL in points per game (29.3) and have the QB1 in Josh Allen and WR1 in Stefon Diggs. I’m surprised by the Vikings’ record and the fact that they aren’t having to outscore their opponents with humungous Dynasty Owner Player of the Week games from Cousins, Cook, or Jefferson. Enjoy it for another week as they have a Week 7 bye, and their record won’t change. SKOL Vikings!

Totally Predictable Event of the Week: The return of the “boom or bust” tendencies of the two of the best at it in fantasy football: Tyler Lockett ($17,250,000) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling ($10,000,000). This probably shouldn’t count since if you read my Week 6 preview article, you’ll recall that I praised both players for being more consistent and even picked Marquez Valdes-Scantling (MVS) as the WR who you should have in your Starting lineup this week. After that prediction, Dynasty Owners should have been running as fast as possible to the nearest sportsbook or logging on to their phones to place some Under receptions and Under receiving yards bets on both players. It was the ultimate jinx, and I should have known because the consistency was bound to end.

It ended in pretty spectacular fashion as MVS put up his first Blutarsky (0.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points) of the season and the eighth of his 49-game Dynasty Owner career. Lockett doesn’t do the Blutarsky as he only has one in three plus Dynasty Owner seasons, but he managed to only score 3.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (2 receptions for 17 yards). He’s the “boom or bust” poster child, averaging 15.6 Dynasty Owner fantasy points per game in 54 Dynasty Owner career games with almost as many games with less than 7.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (12 games) as more than 20.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (13 games). He has six career games with more than 30.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points and 21 games with fewer than 10.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Folks, that’s scoring single digits in nearly 40% of your games, while averaging 15.6 points per game. Like I said, lots of bust to go with a lot of boom.

I don’t know why I thought that chapter of their careers were over. It wasn’t very smart of me and I’m not sure why I let my guard down and thought they had changed. It was a classic wrestling swerve and a good one. Not as good as the Montreal Screwjob which is inexplicably listed as the #13 wrestling swerve of all-time.

Players Who Should Have Been Starters This Week

Now, we look at players who should have been one of your Starters based on their performance in Week 6. These are players who aren’t on a lot of Dynasty Owner rosters and if they are, were more likely to be on your Bench or Practice Squad when they should have been in your Starting lineup.

QB: Matt Ryan (IND – $30,000,000) – 41.0 points

Matt Ryan could have been an Honorable Mention as Player of the Week, but I felt that he needed his own headline highlighting his 41.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (389 passing yards, -4 rushing yards, 3 TDs). Week 6 seems to be Ryan’s sweet spot as he had 44.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy points in Week 6 of 2020 and 42.5 Dynasty Owner fantasy points in Week 6 of 2019. He has four games in Dynasty Owner history with 40.0 or more Dynasty Owner fantasy points and three of them have come in Week 6. He got screwed in 2021 as the Falcons had a Week 6 bye. Not coincidentally, Ryan had the worst season of his career (QB19 finish with an average of 16.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points per game). He did not finish below QB12 in either 2019 or 2020 and averaged 23.4 Dynasty Owner fantasy points per game across both seasons. If Ryan plays next season, remember this when Week 6 comes around for daily fantasy sports (DFS) and redraft league purposes as he is difficult to roster in Dynasty Owner at $30 million. Exactly one-fifth (20%) of Dynasty Owner leagues have a team with Ryan on their roster and with bye weeks starting, hopefully most of those Dynasty Owners found at least a spot on their Bench for him and maybe even a few used him in their Starting lineup.

RB: Kenyan Drake (BAL – $1,035,000) – 21.7 points

With Deon Jackson winning Value Player of the Week, this spot goes to another RB who seemed like he was washed-up and had to sign a veteran minimum salary contract. After having Latavius Murray ($1,120,000) be the choice in Week 4 and Tevin Coleman ($1,120,000) appear here in Week 5, it’s Kenyan Drake’s turn. Drake had an identical performance to Coleman with 21.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (119 rushing yards, 1 reception, 8 receiving yards, 1 TD). Drake did almost all of his damage on the ground while Coleman was more effective in the passing game than running the ball. Drake wasn’t signed to the practice squad at first like Coleman and Murray, but he was inactive in Week 4. However, J.K. Dobbins ($1,432,359) was held out of the second half and Drake ran through the opening to post his best performance since he had 21.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy points playing for Las Vegas last year in Week 6 against Denver. It’s doubtful that too many Dynasty Owners had Drake in their Starting lineup since he had been inactive two weeks ago and only had 3.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points last week. Congratulations to you if you had him there, or even if you didn’t drop him last week like I did in one league. At least, I picked up Deon Jackson to replace him.

WR: Tyquan Thornton (NE – $1,763,464) – 21.3 points

My friend Bob Siggins sent me this tweet that I had to pass along. Of course, I believe that Tyquan Thornton is the next Randy Moss as much as Jay Pounds believes that Bailey Zappe ($1,076,768) is Tom Brady ($15,000,000) 2.0.

  • Do I want to believe both of those things? Yes, of course I do.
  • Do I believe it’s true right now? Of course not.
  • What about in the future? Maybe, hopefully, fingers crossed, pretty please.

Regardless of whether this is the start of a beautiful partnership or a one-week flash in the pan in Week 6 against the Browns, there’s no denying that Tyquan Thornton was likely not in a lot of Dynasty Owner Starting lineups this week. Not even Thornton’s biggest superfan Evan Eckert (aka PACKER-H8TER) probably had him there. However, Evan and everyone else with Thornton on their Dynasty Owner roster should have done it after Thornton scored 2 TDs (1 rushing and 1 receiving) as part of a 21.3 Dynasty Owner fantasy point (16 rushing yards, 4 receptions, 37 receiving yards, 2 TDs) game.

TE: Mike Gesicki (MIA – $10,931,000) – 24.9 points

Despite being paid as a top TE, Mike Gesicki has seemed more like an afterthought in the Miami offense for a good portion of the season. He had a 14.1 Dynasty Owner fantasy point (4 receptions, 41 receiving yards, 1 TD) performance in Week 2, but just 11.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (5 receptions for 60 receiving yards) in the other four games combined. That’s 25.1 Dynasty Owner fantasy points, which is just 0.2 more points than he scored in Week 6. Gesicki was the highest scoring TE in a great week for TE scoring as he had 24.9 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (6 receptions, 69 receiving yards, 2 TDs). This was his best game since he had 27.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points against Buffalo back in Week 2 of the 2020 season. Despite his fairly high roster percentage (78.72%), Dynasty Owners may not have had Gesicki in their Starting lineup with third string QB Skylar Thompson ($935,554) starting. They should have had him as their Starter though as Teddy Bridgewater ($6,500,000) ending up playing more than Thompson, played well and threw both of his TD passes to Gesicki.

Honorable mention to Cowboys rookie TE Jake Ferguson who was mentioned earlier. Because Dalton Schultz ($10,931,000) was said to be playing in Week 6, few Dynasty Owners with Ferguson probably had him in their lineups. However, Schultz tweaked his knee in warmups and ended up as a surprise inactive for Sunday Night Football. Unless you saw the news and had Ferguson on your team with Schultz, or a TE on one of the other three teams who hadn’t played yet, you were likely out of luck. Ferguson had 14.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (4 receptions, 40 receiving yards, 1 TD) in place of Schultz. Ferguson missed the cutoff to be one of Jay’s Free Agent Auction targets because he was on a roster in 75.32% of Dynasty Owner leagues at the time. Hopefully you got him with your bid before the Week 7 games start because he did well and looked good on the field too.

K: Dustin Hopkins (LAC – $3,000,000) – 12.0 points

This is one of the few times that a player is listed here because he was expected to be out with an injury with his team playing on Monday Night Football. Most Dynasty Owners probably didn’t want to risk having him in their Starting lineup. Turns out that was a poor decision as Hopkins ended up playing and kicking 4 FGs, including a game-winning 39 yarder in overtime. That was the longest of his FGs on the evening and gave his Dynasty Owners an extra 3 points because it was a clutch score. Despite hurting himself on his first kicking attempt of the game, Hopkins stayed in and made four FGs of 39 yards or less (31, 35, 37 and 39 yards) that were worth 2.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points each plus the PAT on which he got injured. If you took the risk and started Hopkins, congratulations are in order for your decision. You’ll also likely need another kicker as Hopkins will be out for the Chargers’ Week 7 game and likely a couple more weeks.

Players Who Should Have Been on the Bench or Practice Squad

For every player who should have been in your Starting lineup but wasn’t, we have at least one highly drafted or ranked player who probably was in your Starting lineup, but scored few, zero, or even negative Dynasty Owner fantasy points in Week 6. All of them should have been riding your Bench or hanging out on the Practice Squad.

QB: Justin Herbert (LAC – $6,644,688) – 9.8 points

In a model of utter inefficiency, Justin Herbert attempted 57 passes and only scored 9.8 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (238 passing yards, 9 rushing yards, 1 INT). Matt Ryan had more one pass attempt in Week 6, 151 more passing yards and 3 TDs. Only Josh Palmer ($1,258,365) and Donald Parham ($895,000) had receptions of over 10 yards for the Chargers, while the trio of Mike Williams ($20,000,000), Gerald Everett ($6,000,000) and Austin Ekeler had 17 receptions but none longer than 9 yards (each of them had a 9 yard reception). It wasn’t a good week for Dynasty Owners with Herbert on their roster and in their Starting lineup, even as he led the Chargers to a 19-16 victory over the Broncos on Monday Night Football. His lack of production meant that I lost a Dynasty Owner match-up against Tim Peffer by 12.88 points. If Herbert had hit his projection of 25.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points, I would have squeaked out a close victory. There were a few QBs with fewer Dynasty Owner fantasy points in Week 6, but none likely in as many Starting lineups as Herbert.

RB: Jeffrey Wilson (SF – $1,085,000) – -0.5 points

How bad was San Francisco’s running game on Sunday? Their leading rusher was Jeffrey Wilson who had 25 yards rushing, but also lost a fumble so he finished with -0.5 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Overall, they only had 50 rushing yards on 16 carries, which was less than both of the Falcons’ leading rushers for the game, Caleb Huntley ($705,000) and Tyler Allgeier ($998,474) who had 59 yards on 16 carries and 51 yards on 15 carries respectively.

Wilson had his first subpar game as a starter of the season as he had scored double digit Dynasty Owner fantasy points in Weeks 2 through 5 with an average of 14.6 points per game. That was good enough to make him at least a RB2 or FLEX and likely a part of your Starting lineup. He should have been on your Bench or, better yet, your Practice Squad, in Week 6.

WR: Garrett Wilson (NYJ – $5,138,502) – 1.8 points

If you looked at Wilson’s overall statistics before Week 6, you saw a rookie who was averaging 13.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points per game (66.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points in five games). However, he had 33.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points in Week 2 and 33.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points combined in the other four weeks. Equally, if not more troubling, is that Wilson has played worse with his brother from another Mother Zach Wilson ($8,787,670) than Joe Flacco ($3,500,000) at QB. Did you notice how I slipped in a Zach Wilson mother reference? ?

Garrett Wilson had 54.2 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (18 receptions, 214 receiving yards, -2 rushing yards, 2 TDs) in three games with Flacco at QB. In three games with Zach Wilson at QB, he has 13.6 Dynasty Owner fantasy points (6 receptions for 76 receiving yards). Garrett was targeted 33 times by Flacco, but only 15 times by Zach Wilson. However, if you look closer, you’ll see that his target share is similar with both QBs (21.3% with Flacco and 20% with Zach Wilson) as Flacco threw twice as many passes (155 pass attempts for Flacco vs. 75 for Zach Wilson). That bodes well for the future of the Jets’ Wilson brothers, even if Garrett should have been on your Dynasty Owner Bench this week.

Dishonorable mentions to the pair of Marquez Valdes-Scantling (MVS) and Tyler Lockett who predictably scored few Dynasty Owner fantasy points this week. In case you didn’t read the Totally Predictable Event of the Week section above, MVS had a Blutarsky (0.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points), and Lockett had just 3.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. Because both of them had been playing well and had been a consistent source of points, they were likely in plenty of Dynasty Owner Starting lineups. Hope you didn’t fall for the trap and kept them on the Bench.

TE: Tyler Higbee (LAR – $7,250,000) – 1.7 points

While the Rams offense has struggled all season, Tyler Higbee along with Cooper Kupp ($15,750,000) had seemed immune from the team’s problems. Dynasty Owners with Higbee had gotten four straight performances with over 10.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points from the TE. In Week 6, Kupp produced slightly below average results for his Dynasty Owners, while both Allen Robinson ($15,500,000) and Ben Skowronek ($891,131) had breakout weeks with all three scoring about the same number of Dynasty Owner fantasy points (17.3 for Robinson and 16.7 for both Kupp and Skowronek). Unfortunately, there weren’t enough targets left for Higbee as he was targeted only twice (a season low as he was averaging 9.6 targets per game) and had just one reception for 7 yards (1.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points). Higbee was TE7 prior to Week 6 and only dropped to TE8 after this week’s poor performance since the breakout TE games were by players far lower than him or in the top 3 TEs. Having Higbee miss out on the TE scoring party in Week 6 was surprising and he wasn’t even worth a Bench spot this week. Hope you had him on the Practice Squad.

K: Brett Maher (DAL – $965,000) – 2.0 points

Brett Maher has been a great bargain for his Dynasty Owners. At a salary of only $965,000 for this season, he was the third ranked kicker in Dynasty Owner through five weeks with an average of 10.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points per game. He is still ranked third, but his average dropped to 8.7 Dynasty Owner fantasy points per game after he scored only 2.0 points in Week 6. Maher made both of his PATs, made a 30-yard FG and missed a 59-yard FG late in the fourth quarter. The made FG and the missed FG cancelled each other out and the PATs are worth only 1.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy point each. It was only Maher’s second missed FG of the season and the other one was also from 59 yards out.

Maher has been the Cowboys’ kicker for just over two months as he was signed by the team on August 9th, replacing undrafted rookie free agent Jonathan Garibay ($853,333) who was a Dynasty Owner rookie and startup draft darling (33.5 rookie draft ADP and 194.6 startup draft ADP) because he was the only kicker on the Cowboys’ roster for quite a while with an extremely low salary. Those were wasted picks and it should have been obvious that there was no way Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was going to let an undrafted rookie free agent be the Dallas kicker. Garibay didn’t even make it to the first pre-season game before being let go. Jerry Jones is apparently ok with undrafted free agent QBs, such as Cooper Rush ($977,500) and Tony Romo. Don’t forget about Anthony Wright, Clint Stoerner, Chad Hutchinson, Kellen Moore, and Jason Garrett. All seven of those QBs have started at least one game at QB for the Cowboys since Jerry Jones has been the team’s owner. That has to be a record.

Pardon the tangent and now back to the point which is that Maher should have been on your Dynasty Owner Bench this week, even though he had been scoring a lot of Dynasty Owner fantasy points.

Dynasty Owner Match-up of the Week Recap – Chloe’s Centers vs. The Deep Attack

The Match-up of the Week for Week 6 featured a pair of new Dynasty Owners who were both undefeated, but on opposite ends of the scoring spectrum. Chloe’s Centers were in the Top 25 of the Chase for the Ring standings and averaging 170.4 points per game, while The Deep Attack had benefitted greatly from poor scoring by his weekly opponents (only 99.8 points per week on average). Which team won and stayed undefeated?

Chloe’s Centers stay undefeated and it wasn’t even close. They won by 76.6 points (157.58 to 80.98) behind 111.1 points from five players who won’t score them a single point In Week 7. Chloe’s Centers will be without the services of Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, A.J. Brown ($1,413,092) and Darrell Henderson ($1,053,001) who are all on bye, as well as Marquise Brown ($2,946,835) who is injured and out indefinitely. At least they get Darren Waller ($7,450,000) and Josh Jacobs ($2,983,350) back. They will also be without a Bench kicker as Matt Gay ($2,540,000) is on bye, unless they pick up some players in the Free Agent Auction.

The Deep Attack had a lot of underperformers and were led by TE Robert Tonyan who had 19.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points and Ezekiel Elliott ($15,000,000) who had 15.6 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. None of the players on their Bench had double-digit points and their Bench added only a paltry 4.88 points to their final total score. The Deep Attack is fortunate that they are still in second place after the loss. They will be at full strength next week, unlike this week, as they have no players on bye in Week 7.

If you have an intriguing Week 7 match-up that you’d like highlighted as the Match-up of the Week, let me know on Twitter (@SteveVT33). It can be teams with lots of players on bye or no players on bye, or teams with high-scoring rookie TEs or not. Hopefully, it’ll be projected to be a close game and be included in the Preview article on Friday.

Chase for the Ring Leaderboard

Chloe’s Centers hung on and stayed in the Top 25 of the Chase for the Ring leaderboard. They are currently in 23rd place with 1,009.7 points. All of our Top 25 teams have over 1,000 points so far through six weeks of the season. The Top 10 have all scored over 1,050 points as you can see.

Not much movement at all in the Top 10. There was internal movement as no team stayed in the same spot as last week, but only one team (Hingle McCringleberry) moved into the Top 10. They were in 11th place last week, so they didn’t move up much and the team they replaced (The Momaluks) are still in 12th place.

The most important change was Crangis McBasketball moving from third place into first place, pushing Clara Strong ? from League #27448 into second place. Crangis McBasketball scored 50 more points this week than Clara Strong ? from League #27448 to turn a deficit of 23.3 points into a 26.7 point lead. The Clara Strong ? from League #34662 jumped four spots by scoring over 200 points (203.1).

This is a typical amount of movement for this point in the season. After Week 6 of the 2021 season, we also had 9 out of the Top 10 teams from Week 5 remain in the Top 10. The top three teams in 2021 were all in the Top 10 at this point of the season and remained there for the rest of the year. This doesn’t mean that you should give up hope. The teams at the top still need to win their League Championship or it doesn’t matter how many points they score. They also have to navigate another seven bye weeks.

Conclusions

If you don’t have one of the rookie TEs on your Dynasty Owner roster, you can always make some trade offers for them. It’s likely that one or more will end up playing well, possibly outperform Kyle Pitts, and be the cheap TE on a rookie contract that all Dynasty Owners are hoping to have on their team. It has happened plenty of times in the past few years with Mark Andrews, Travis Kelce, Dalton Schultz, and George Kittle all being drafted in the third round or later blossoming into premier NFL TEs. While Kittle and Schultz aren’t playing as well so far this year, remember that those four guys were the top scoring TEs in Dynasty Owner in 2021.
