Free Agent Auction Targets: Week 13

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant

Dynasty Owners! Welcome back to another week of trying to find production for your rosters. The free agents this week are surprisingly not all that bad and should offer some solid value especially in the short term. Before we talk about the guys that can help you, let’s cover some of the highlights from this week in, Jay’s weekly recap.

As always I will continue my little tradition of picking on Baker Mayfield not because I don’t like the guy but simply because he plays for the Browns and never plays up to his full potential. The Browns tried to become the 38th team in 38 tries to win a NFL football game when the opposing QB throws four interceptions and failed to do just that. I have been saying for a while now that Baker Mayfield struggles to win games without massive amounts of help from teammates and we now see that he even struggles to win games when being gifted four turnovers. If I am in the front office for the Browns, I am running hard after one of the disgruntled veteran signal callers this off-season after the debacle we just witnessed in the Browns’ most important game this season. Imagine this Browns roster with Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, or DeShaun Watson at the helm. As a Steelers fan, I would prefer to not talk about their game, but since I ragged on Baker, it’s only fair. The Steelers need a QB and a new defensive coordinator in a bad way. I see no reason the defense should struggle this bad with the pieces they have. The Cowboys found a way to lose against a struggling Raiders team on Thanksgiving and it seems their division may just get interesting before the season ends. The Bills got going in the right direction against the Saints but have a crucial divisional matchup against the Patriots coming this Monday night. As much as I could not stand the Pats in recent years, I am growing fond of this Mac Jones led team. The job Bill Belichick has done with this team further assures me he is the best coach to ever put on a headset. In this week’s toilet bowl, the Jets pulled out a narrow victory against the Texans and with that the second pick in the NFL draft is still up for grabs. The Colts almost held on to beat the Buccaneers but fell just short. If the Colts make the playoffs be on the lookout for a deep run on the back of Jonathan Taylor. In my opinion, the Colts are one receiver away from being a Super Bowl contender. The Falcons managed to win a game against the Jaguars this weekend and my two takeaways from this game are that we all missed on Cordarrelle Patterson bad this off-season, and Urban Meyer needs to be fired. He is in over his head and is killing the development of Trevor Lawrence. The Cam Newton truthers from Twitter must be angry after this week’s performance. Just last week many said the Patriots made a mistake starting Mac Jones and letting Cam go. If it wasn’t obvious two weeks ago when it was being said it surely is now, The Hoodie is smarter than all of us when it comes to football I promise! The Packers made a huge statement this weekend beating the Rams and because of that the Rams’ playoff hopes could be in danger. Finally, we have the Vikings vs 49ers and as always when it comes to Minnesota football games the game came down to the wire. This week the Niners, not the Vikings, came out on top. I hope you enjoyed this week’s recap now onto the important stuff.

Alright Dynasty Owners, we are back with another week of trying to find a diamond in the rough with the Free Agent Auction targets. The free agent articles/videos will be dropping every Tuesday afternoon in advance of when bids process on Wednesday at 5 AM and will consist of the week’s Top 5 free agent adds. I will do my best to keep the players listed at an ownership percentage of 65% or less and make sure all players have contracts of $8,000,000 or less, with most players coming in at under $4,000,000. One last note, in Dynasty Owner you will be credited each week with 25% of your entire Bench’s score making these weekly free agent pick-ups extremely important to help boost your total weekly score.

On to the top targets for Week 13:

  1. Kendrick Bourne – (WR – NE) 3 years/$5,000,000 – 67.46% Rostered

If you have followed this series at all this season, you likely know that Kendrick Bourne was the poster child of my free agents. Bourne has appeared in these articles several times this season, yet still remains under 70% rostered on Dynasty Owner. I am assuming this will be Bourne’s last week under that mark as he put up another solid week scoring 2 touchdowns and catching 5 passes for 61 yards to score 23.1 Dynasty Owner fantasy points. I don’t know about you, but I can’t leave that kind of production in my league’s Free Agent Auction if I have the cap space. The other huge positive about Bourne is that his quarterback Mac Jones is a rookie who will likely only get better the more he plays.

  • Josh Reynolds – (WR – DET) 1 year/$1,750,000 – 46.15% Rostered

If you remember back to last week’s article, I included Josh Reynolds despite the fact that he did not catching a pass in a Lions uniform. I said this would be a pickup for future production. Well on Thursday against the Chicago Bears, Reynolds made me look like a smart man when he caught 3 balls for 70 yards and a touchdown (16.0 Dynasty Owner fantasy points). If it wasn’t clear last week, it is now, Reynolds is Detroit’s number 1 wide receiver for the rest of the season. It also seems that Reynolds will be the main deep threat for this offense moving forward.

  • Dontrelle Hilliard – (RB – TEN) 1 year/$920,000 – 58.58% Rostered

In the third spot, we have another repeat player from last week’s list in Dontrelle Hilliard. I put Hilliard on this list last week due to the volume he received in the passing game and while he was unable to duplicate that performance, Hilliard looked solid running for 131 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries. If you were to just read that last sentence, it may impress you enough to pick up Hilliard but if that doesn’t do it for you just look at who he put these numbers up against last week. The New England Patriots who always play tough defense. The Titans backfield seems to be a two man show without Derrick Henry and that should mean guaranteed work for Hilliard and his teammate D’Onta Foreman ($920,000; 82.25% rostered) moving forward.

  • Matt Breida – (RB – BUF) 1 year/$1,055,000 – 53.85% Rostered

Do the Bills finally have some resemblance of a running game, minus Josh Allen of course? Over the past two weeks Matt Breida has turned in above average performances that would probably look nice on more than a few people’s Bench right now in Dynasty Owner. I am not going to recommend Breida in anyone’s Starting lineup or Bench for that matter, but he can be played in a pinch and as we saw on Thanksgiving, he has a chance to find the end zone. When the running back position looks as bad as it does now sometimes you have to suck it up and play a Matt Breida. On another note, it’s funny to me that Breida and Jordan Howard looked so bad last season yet have found new life outside of Miami.

  • Nick Westbrook-Ikhine – (WR – TEN) 1 year/$610,000 – 61.54% Rostered

Finally, in the last spot we have our fourth repeat on the list, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. In Sunday’s loss against the red hot New England Patriots, Westbrook-Ikhine managed to put together a decent day for those who had to play him in their lineups thanks to a touchdown. In Week 12, Westbrook-Ikhine didn’t have the best day catching only 2 passes for 25 yards but caught a day changing touchdown as mentioned earlier. At this point, it seems like a huge gamble playing Westbrook-Ikhine, but he has shown the ability to find the end zone which always helps. All in all, there are much worse options than Westbrook-Ikhine with as cheap as his salary is.
